Corrections: Reentry Programs Study Tour
WorldBoston has an incoming delegation of Mexican Police Officers participating in the Department of State-sponsored Law Enforcement and Security Exchange Program (LESEP) that will be in town in November.
Just in case you’re learning about our organization for the first time, World Boston’s mission is to foster engagement in international affairs and cooperation with peoples of all nations. A lot of what we do involves professional international exchange through U.S. Government-funded programs. World Boston typically hosts around 800 to 1000 visitors per year through these programs, and we rely on a large network of businesses, government offices, non-profits, and other institutions to meet and work with our international visitors in various capacities.
Here’s a detailed description of the Study Tour: “[LESEP] Study Tour #9, titled “Corrections: Reentry Programs Study Tour”, will include a group of 20 participants representing a mix of state and federal correctional institutions in Mexico. Participants will be responsible for prisoner reentry programs and will look at best practices in creating and implementing reentry programming in prisons. It will also focus on the work that academic research institutions like Harvard and MIT are doing in this area and the types of initiatives they are implementing. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about community organizations that support recently released offenders to help them reintegrate into society and reduce recidivism.
